I’ve always loved a good board game. But for 2020, games have provided some much-needed laughs and family smack-talking. Comic relief, if you please. Plus, who doesn’t need more family, non-technology fun?
Here are a few of our family favorites:
What Do You Meme:Family Edition
What better way to reach a teen’s heart than through a meme? Lots of good laughs from this one!
Cribbage:
We’re new to this classic game and enjoying it. We see why it’s stood the test of time.
Ramen Fury
This game has you giggling as prep bowls of ramen filled with tasty ingredients. You use recipes and garnishes to boost points. We can throw spicy chili peppers at each other or swipe cards.
Five Second Rule
This a fun whole family, or large group, game. Players have 5 seconds to name 5 things that fit within a given category. The funny part is the creativity and difficulty spitting out your thoughts!
Apples to Apples Jr
This will always be a favorite family game. It is fun every single time with every single crowd.
Claire gives it 5 stars, and says, “Lots of them make you laugh!”
Blank Slate
We played this game last Thanksgiving about 37 times. It’s fun for everybody. Little people can pair up with an older kid.
Sophia gives this one five stars. “Everybody can play and its fun to see how different people think alike.”
Quiddler:
This word-making card is one of my favorites.
Five Crowns
While I AM a board game lover, I am not a huge LONG card game fan. My attention span ends after about 30 minutes. That said, this is hands down my family’s favorite card game. They play every holiday and every vacation. I busy myself with the snacks.
We started the kids out playing Five Crowns Jr and it’s much more my speed. 🙂
Evelyn gives Five Crown’s Jr 5 stars and says, “It’s the best because if you win, you get crowns! It is easier than the adult one because you only play five rounds.”
Bananagrams
I held off on this game for too long, skeptical that a little banana bag could hold anything fun. I was wrong. It is simple and easy fun. It’s a word tile game that can be played alone or with others. I just happen to be the family champion, but who is keeping score?
Monopoly Jr
Our kids love to play this game. It’s easy and feels like a game for older kids. Just a quicker game of Monopoly.
I’ve been eying the National Parks Edition Monopoly as well.
Code Names Disney
We have the regular Code Names game and have had lots of fun with it. The Disney version sounds like a fun family twist. Evelyn’s opinion, “I love Disney ALL stuff so it would be really fun.”
Jenga
Sometimes I really overthink things and other times I pull out classics like Jenga and it is the easiest kind of fun.
Spicy UNO
Have you tried using the classic UNO cards but kicked up with Spicy Uno rules? A must.
Harry Potter Uno is going in a stocking this year!
Mancala
This game is so easy and so chill. Just the right combination of sensory, simple, and competition. Eli crushes us every time with his secret strategy.
Qwixx
It’s our official new favorite dice game. It’s quick and perfectly competitive.
Qwingo
This is one of my favorites for a quick, crowd-pleasing dice game. Fun for any age.
Ticket to Ride, First Journey
The adventure lovers in us love this ticketed train game. We started with the junior version and it was a great intro with just enough need for strategy.
We quickly moved on to the adult version and love all the different geographical locations.
PlayMonster Stinky Pig
This tooting pork version of hot potato is just mindless fun with guaranteed laughs for the third-grader in all of us! We’ve had some major laughs with this one.
Sequence
We just got this at Christmas and it has made its way almost to the top of our favorite game list. So easy and fun.
Don’t Make Me Laugh
We don’t have this yet but might order it for this week.
Catan
This is an engaging family game of strategy.
Sushi Go
Because who doesn’t love sushi? My son wants to play this EVERY day!
Uno Dare
Uno plus dares? It sounds like a win. Time to finally try it.
We’ve got a daughter, who loves Harry Potter and Clue, who will be unwrapping this this year.
Help us out. Hit us up with more games to add to our family line-up. What are we missing? Here’s to more good times around the table with our families. Game on, friends.
